The best part about planning a wedding is knowing you've selected a fantastic spot for the honeymoon to follow. After all the work involved in planning your wedding, you'll need a vacation!

Starting with a budget, make a list of possible destinations that you would like to visit and then begin checking what vacation packages are available. Ask friends and family for their recommendations and obtain some travel guidebooks to look through. You will need a major credit card to book a car or hotel reservation and even if you're planning to pay cash, a credit card can come in handy in emergencies.

Decide what kind of vacation package you want. Would an all-inclusive package suit your style and your budget or does this type of package offer things you really don't want? Talk to others who took the same package to get their feedback. Review the literature, contracts and check the fine print before signing.

If you will be travelling to a foreign country, including the United States, make sure you have a valid passport. Travel Visas are also required by some countries so check out these details as well. Get any necessary prescriptions refilled and carry a copy of your doctor's prescription with you.

Make a list of items you'll need for your vacation and shop for vacation clothes a couple of months prior to leaving. Confirm all your arrangements at least a couple of weeks in advance and purchase traveller's cheques. It might be a good idea to purchase foreign currency in advance from a bank or currency broker.

Start packing about one week prior to leaving, using a checklist to ensure that you don't forget anything. Always pack some toiletries and underwear in your carry-on luggage just in case you find that the airline has misplaced your luggage when you arrive at your destination. Make sure you leave contact information with family or friends and arrange to have someone pick up your mail and newspapers.

And above everything else, have fun. You've earned it!
